Parents — ₹50 Lakh for Their Peace
Sankalpa
My parents are settled and retired. ₹50 lakh sits in fixed deposits in their names. I built it rupee by rupee, month after month, as an offering of love. When I see the peace on their faces I feel deep joy, because this responsibility is fulfilled.
What "done" looks like (November 2027)
- ₹50,00,000 in fixed deposits in my parents' names.
- The FDs are split across a few banks and dates (so money is safe and some matures each year).
- My parents know where each FD is, and the nominee details are correct.
- They have health insurance.
The math
- Target: ₹50,00,000
- Already saved (Nov 2026): ₹__________
- Still needed: ₹__________
- Months left: 12
- Needed per month: still needed ÷ 12 = ₹__________
Example: if I start from zero, I need about ₹4,17,000 a month. If I already have ₹10 lakh, I need about ₹3,33,000 a month.
Simple rules
- Pay my parents first. The day salary or income arrives, move this month's amount before spending anything else.
- Automate it. Set up an automatic transfer or a recurring deposit, so it happens without a decision.
- Ladder the FDs. Open a new FD every few months instead of one big one. This gives flexibility and spreads the risk.
- Keep each bank under the insured limit. In India, deposit insurance (DICGC) covers up to ₹5 lakh per person per bank. Spreading across banks keeps more of the money insured.
- Senior citizen rates. Banks usually give higher FD rates for people over 60. Open FDs in my parents' names to get this.
- Talk to a tax advisor once about how FD interest is taxed for my parents (and Form 15H for senior citizens).

If-then plans
- If a month is short, then I deposit what I can and add the gap over the next 3 months.
- If I feel tempted to spend on something big, then I wait 7 days and ask: does this come before my parents' peace?
Rupee by rupee, as an offering of love. The effort is mine; the fruit is His.
